Fifteen years of staring into the dark
I finally found an escape hatch
In the black

In the darkness of my soul
In the darkness of my heart
In the darkest recesses of my mind

A little spark
A little proof of magic
That surrender to the Divine brings with it

Sunset Over The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

Previously published on Poetry Page "April is the cruelest month" on Facebook.
That clockwork orange peel with no fragrance
That atom bomb on the horizon waiting to drop
Go down faster and leave me be
Cloak my desires in darkness please
This hour is so wracked with pain
Even God won't have anything to do with it

The Brave

the brave inspire mankind to greatness

the price they have paid
so the sinners stop killing the saints
so children can live to adulthood
so love and art and reason can survive annihilation
is a price humanity ought never have to pay
but we must
so here's to our heroes
who fight for peace justice liberty sanity
mostly unsung
until long after the victory has been won
and they have moved on to new battles

Persephone's Reprieve

The pomegranate split open
Jeweled on the inside
The sunlight stopped being wishy-washy
Around the whitewashed room
And turned into liquid love
Pouring itself into me
Buds arranged themselves in whorls on
Dark bark stark against the winter sky
To celebrate

The play of shadow and light
On a weakly warm January morning
Bleakly lit up an imaginary archway
On the solid wall
I suddenly knew
Why the caged bird sings
I sang too
To my utter disbelief
To celebrate

Songs forgotten over a lifetime
Came back to me to and made perfect sense.
My feet could almost feel the sweet
Tickle of grass unabashedly growing
Under my feet!
Memories of fireflies in June
Put on a show
In the theater of my mind
To celebrate

A Force Of Nature
The stars scatter on us all
The same amount of sparkle
Rain drenches us all the same
Love comes looking for us all
At inconvenient moments
The sun warms us all equally
And yet only the meek shall inherit the earth
